Lloyd Dyer - York City v Leicester City

Leicester winger Lloyd Dyer has joined Watford on a three year deal for a free transfer. He will become a Watford player on the 1st July. He becomes Watford’s third summer signing after goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes and defender Gabriel Tamas. There have been many reports over the past 3-4 weeks saying that Dyer was set to join the Hornets but it has only been confirmed today by both Watford and Leicester. A winger with a blistering turn of pace and an eye for goal, Dyer was a key member in the Leicester team during the 2013/14 season which sealed promotion to the Premier League with Dyer himself scoring the goal that crowned Leicester champions against Bolton.

Dyer started off his career at West Bromwich Albion after coming through the youth ranks. He made 25 appearances in a six year stay at the club scoring two goals. During his time at the Baggies, Dyer spent loan spells at Kidderminster Harriers, Coventry, QPR and Millwall. He then joined MK Dons in the summer of 2006. He spent two seasons with the club making 97 appearances scoring 16 goals. Then in 2008, he joined Leicester City. In his first season at The Foxes, Dyer helped guide the side the club to promotion to the Championship. Last season, Dyer was a key player for the club where he was influential in assisting and scoring goals. He made 46 appearances scoring 10 goals last year one of which came against the Hornets at Vicarage Road in November. During his time at Leicester, Dyer never made less than 37 appearances and rarely missed matches through injury. Moreover, Dyer has also become one of the Championships most dangerous winger with his pace and power causing a variety of problems for opposite full backs. After six seasons with Leicester, Dyer has made 265 appearances scoring 39 goals and became a fans favourite.

However, after Leicester’s promotion, the foxes only offered Dyer a one year contact which he turned down and has now joined the Hornets on a three year deal. A player who has been vastly impressive for Leicester and has an abundance of championship experience, Dyer looks an excellent signing for the club especially as they have managed to get the 32 year old on a free transfer. A creative player who can carve open a defence with his pace and power which Watford missed last season, Dyer could become an influential player for the Hornets. Welcome to the club Lloyd!
