Watford v Huddersfield Match Preview.

30/08/2014 12:37

Watford face Huddersfield Town today at Vicarage Road in the Sky Bet Championship, as the Hornets aim to continue their good start to the season. The Golden Boys fantastic 4 - 1 victory over Leeds United last weekend at the Vic, propelled the club up to second place in the table only one point behind leaders Nottingham Forest. Huddersfield however, have not had a good start to the season, with manager Mark Robins being sacked after one game and the Terriers lie in 20th position with only 4 points out of a possible 12. During the two meetings between these two sides last season, Watford ran out 1-2 winners at the John Smith stadium thanks to goals from Fernando Forestieri and Daniel Pudil, however the Terriers gained revenge over Watford with a 1-4 victory at Vicarage Road on the final day of the 2013/14 season when in all fairness, the Hornets were well below par.

Former Hornet Jonathan Hogg is among the Huddersfield squad after joining the Terriers from Watford in July 2013. The midfielder was sorely missed by the Hornets last season, after he decided to move back up north for family reasons, with his tough tackling and his header down to set up Troy Deeneys goal against Leicester in the play off semi final, endearing him to Watford fans.

Huddersfield's caretaker manager is Mark Lillis after Mark Robins was sacked after one game this season, after a humiliating 0-4 home defeat to Bournemouth.

The Terriers danger man today will be striker Nakhi Wells. Wells joined the Terriers from Bradford in January 2014 after an impressive couple of seasons with the club. Although the Terriers have started this season poorly, Wells notched a hat-trick in the Capital One Cup first round victory over Chesterfield and also scored during the club's 1-1 draw with Charlton last weekend. On his day, Wells can be deadly and will prove to a be a handful for the Hornets defence this afternoon.

Team News.

For Watford, Joel Ekstrand is available after serving his three match ban after his sending off against Norwich. Craig Cathcart is back in training after his injury but won't be risked. Young strikers, Uche Ikpeazu and Bernard Mensah are out.

For Huddersfield, Nakhi Wells and Jonathan Hogg are avaliable for selection after over coming ankle and calf knocks whilst midfielder Radoslaw Majewski is also avaiable after he was ineligable to play his parent club Nottingham Forest in the week. Jack Robinson could make his debut after signing on loan from QPR this week. Lee Peltier and Tommy Smith are out.
