Watford completed the signing of Daryl Janmaat from Newcastle in August 2016, with the full-back putting pen-to-paper on four-year-deal at Vicarage Road. The Holland international started his career with ADO Den Haag and after just one season he secured a move to Heerenveen in July 2008. The full-back would then enjoy seven successful seasons in the Dutch Eredivisie with both Heerenveen and Feyenoord, before he was snapped up by Newcastle United in July 2014. Janmaat would remain at St James' Park for two seasons, making 77 appearances in all competitions and scoring three times, one of which coming against the Hornets in the Magpies' 2-1 defeat to Watford in September 2015. Following Newcastle's relegation to the Championship, Janmaat moved to Watford for a fee thought to be in the region of £7.5m. He made his debut for the Golden Boys just a few days after signing for the club, when he came on as a second half substitute during the Hornets' 3-1 defeat to Arsenal. Janmaat scored his first goal for the club during the 6-1 defeat to Liverpool in November 2016 and went onto make 28 appearances, in what was an injury hit campaign for the Dutchman at Vicarage Road.
