Watford signed Austrian international defender Sebastian Prodl on the 1st June 2015, on a five-year-deal after he left Werder Bremen. The 6ft 4 defender started his career in his native Austria with Sturm Graz, where he made 43 appearances in two years, scoring 4 goals. His impressive performances for the Austrian Bundesliga side led to a move to Germany, as he signed for Werder Bremen. Prodl impressed in the Germany as part of the Werder Bremen defence and he made 150 appearances, scoring 10 goals. During his time at the club, he was part of the side that reached the UEFA Cup final in 2009 and was highly rated in Germany. In addition to his club career, Prodl is also capped at international level by Austria, and represented his nation at the Euro 2008 tournament. After seven years in Germany, Prodl decided to seek a new challenge, rejecting a new contract with Werder Bremen, meaning he would become a free agent in the summer of 2015. Watford beat a number of clubs to secure his signature, with the imposing centre back putting pen-to-paper on a five-year-deal. Prodl made his Watford debut on the opening day of the 2015/16 season, playing the full 90 minutes of the Hornets' 2-2 draw with Everton. The Austrian defender put in some excellent performances during his first season at the club, making 24 appearances and scoring two goals.
